Este texto discute a literatura internacional sobre política regulatória identificando as questões centrais da agenda de pesquisa na área. O texto discute as agências regulatórias independentes e sua difusão internacional, e os processos recentes de desregulação e re-r-re-gulação. A revisão da literatura examina as chamadas  teorias normativas e positivas, e as análises neo-institucio-nalistas sobre  a questão (em torno de lógica da delegação de poder a agentes independentes, e o chamado commitment problem da regulação. O texto conclui que a literatura produzida por cientistas políticos ainda é bastante reduzida, e que a discussão da accountability da política regulatória constitui uma lacuna na agenda de pesquisas.

This article discusses the international literature on regulatory policy, identifying the central issues on the respective research agenda. The text discusses the independent regulatory agen-cies and their international dissemination, as well as recent deregulation and re-regulation processes. The literature review examines the so-called normative and positive theories and neo-institutionalist analyses concerning the logic of delegating power to independent agents as well as the so-called commitment problem in regulation. The article concludes that the literature produced by political scientists is still quite limited, and that the discussion of accountability in regulatory agencies constitutes a gap in the research agenda.

Esta resenha discute a bibliografia brasileira de ciências sociais nas áreas de criminalidade, violência urbana, justiça criminal e segurança pública, demonstrando, inicialmente, seu significativo aumento nos últimos anos, a grande variedade de subáreas temáticas envolvidas nesse crescimento e a complexidade de uma perspectiva analítica que busque integrar comparativamente as diferentes abordagens. Em seguida, discute-se as produções temáticas da criminalidade urbana, da justiça criminal e das políticas públicas de segurança, em sua relação com as representações urbanas, também veiculadas pela mídia, de uma violência crescente.

This review discusses the Brazilian social sciences bibliography in the areas of crime, urban violence, criminal justice, and public security, initially demonstrating a significant increase in these themes in recent years, the wide variety of thematic sub-areas involved in this growth, and the complexity of an analytical perspective that seeks a comparative integration of the various approaches. The article then discusses the thematic production in urban crime, criminal justice, and public security policies and their relationship to urban representations of growing violence aired by the media.

Nos últimos anos, a aplicação de modelos econômicos para o estudo dos fenômenos religiosos originou o desenvolvimento de um novo paradigma interpretativo na sociologia da religião norte-americana. Além da utilização explícita de conceitos econômicos, o modelo inclui pressupostos derivados da teoria da escolha racional (racional choice) e uma atenção focalizada mais na oferta religiosa do que na procura. O trabalho resenha as principais idéias do novo paradigma aportadas por Rodney Stark, Laurence Iannaccone e Roger Finke, e aponta seus elementos mais positivos.  Sugere, finalmente, em que medida este pode ser melhorado à luz de outros aportes contemporâneos no estudo da religião.

In recent years, the application of economic models to the study of religious phenomena has led to the development of a new interpretative paradigm in North American sociology of religion. In addition to the explicit utilization of economic concepts, the model includes premises derived from the theory of rational choice and focuses more attention on the supply of religion than the demand.  This article outlines the main ideas in the new paradigm provided by Rodney Stark, Laurence Iannaccone, and Roger Finke and highlights its more positive elements. Finally, the article suggests to what extent the paradigm can be improved in light of contemporary developments in the study of religion.

Este artigo, baseado em duas pesquisas qualitativas, visa descrever as populações de estudantes brasileiros em formação na França nos anos 80 e 90. A análise leva em conta as transformações no campo institucional e no campo das representações que as afetaram nesse período. Três aspectos principais serão evocados para caracterizá-las: o lugar ocupado pelos estudos no exterior na trajetória desses estudantes; suas características sociodemográficas, mais precisamente, sua origem de classe e sua posição social; o tipo de estudos realizados e sua localização no território francês.

This article, based on two qualitative studies, aims to describe the groups of Brazilian students in training in France in the 1980s and 90s. The analysis considers transformations in the institutional field and in the field of representations that affected this period. The article draws on three main aspects to characterize these changes: the place occupied by studies abroad in these students’ academic careers; their socio-demographic characteristics, more precisely their class origins and social position; and the types of courses and distribution in French territory.
